Mobile art

My trusty T68 est mort. Les voitures runover many times. boo hoo.

Someone found it on the road - put the sim in their phone, rang my mum and dad, handily title "mum and dad" in the contacts, and then brought it round for me - how cool is that?

Anyway, time to cadge a phone off one of the gadget men who have upgraded recently in the office.

Sharing the knowledge: caravanners

Because we are in exclusive membership of caravan clubs, we get a monthly magazine dedicated to the joys of caravanning. The letters pages are like something out of Viz, here from February's 'Camping and Caravanning' ...

Don't forget the "don't forget" list
I was interested to read Keith Jones's problems with forgetting to re-pack his caravan after laying it up for the winter (Forum, November). We got around this problem by creating a list of all the essential items needed. These lists are then photocopied and used each time we use the van. Each item is highlighted as it is checked ensuring nothing is forgotten. It works!

How to do what you love

Interesting article here on how to manufacture a situation where you do what you love. You can tell its not written by a brit though. Hiding the fact that you don't like you're job - HAHA, we do nothing but moan about our jobs, but don't do anything about it.

The themes are rounded off nicely in the, for once reasonable and intelligent, discussion on slashdot.

Sunday school

At it's core there is something very good for kids to learn about faith.

However, i don't want my kids to be sold a single pseudo-definitive story about God, the Correct way to live, what happens after they die - as they do if they attend a Christian, or any other single faith group. In my experience of mine and other kids, and through no fault of the kids, it breeds intolerance. I spend a lot of time counteracting the effect of it by outlining other peoples point of view - from humanist to other faiths. We no longer send them anywhere for this reason, which is ultimately pretty disappointing.

So I thought, wouldn't it be great if you had a Sunday school that was fun and taught about what people believe in a framework of tolerance. I'm going to see how feasible it is, or whether its already being done.

Job perks - parts 1 to 3

I found this great photo of the british male at large, but forgot which maria sharapova nude website where I had seen it - and in the ensuing google image process found two derivatives of the original work. Hoorah for the interweb.

Who knows what the letters refer to, but the I think the third is pretty self explanatory.

Photocasting hardware

The demo of photocasting from Uncle Steve last week was impressive, but what I'd want to combine it with ia a live updating picture 'frame'. I would want to be able to see it on the desktop like a printer, rather than from iphoto, and to be able to drag and drop rss feeds other apps to assign photo feeds to it.

You'd want to be able to set rules as to how to cycle photos, with different conditions for new ones and maybe a feedback mechanism to say that you had seen any new ones. But I guess to kep the costs down the media and logic would sit at the computer and only a little it of memory lcd and display driver would sit at the frame.

If I had oodles of money then I'd definitely get it into manufacturing an lcd photo frame. The market is going to be massive, and the current offerings have a dynamite combination of ugliness and clumsiness. There is plenty of room for improvement.

Keynote gold

I love watching Uncle Steve's keynotes and consequently I love doing presentations and demos at work because I get to say all the cool 'steve' things.

Of course Steves casual presentation style belies the amount of work that goes into presenting with total clarity of message. Here is an article that goes into some detail as to what preparations go into a keynote. I'm sure nobody thinks this kind of perfection happens without a lot of work, so perhaps more interesting is this article comparing Uncle Steve and Uncle Bills presentation styles within the zen aesthetic.

If you've never watched a Jobs keynote, you are missing out. You can find the latest ones here.
